It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything on here, but I had to share something God put on my heart today.
Like many of you, I’ve been feeling shocked, heartbroken, angry, even a bit fearful at times over the recent events that have been happening around us. The first round of Covid, now the variant and the many lives lost to this virus. The division in our nation over race, politics, masks and vaccines.
Now, the crisis in Afghanistan.
I’ve cried several times over the past two days, my heart breaking for the people of Afghanistan, some dying as they try to escape the country that once felt like home, others too afraid to leave their homes for fear of injury or death. I’ve seen image after image of people flooding the airport with the hope of survival and a better life. I thought about the Pastors of the underground churches, already in hiding even before this crisis began unfolding and how many don’t expect to survive it. I was feeling very overwhelmed, yet couldn’t get past the image of how many people were running and wondering what the outcome would be if they didn’t run, but stood their ground, UNITED.
In the midst of the tears, I heard the word “Remnant” and was reminded of how often God used the remnant to make an eternal impact on the people and nations around them. (You KNOW I had to look it up after that!)
Remnant is defined as a survivor, refugee, what remained or was left behind or “What is left of a community after it undergoes a catastrophe” according to the Anchor Bible Dictionary
But one definition really stood out….Residue, you know that stuff that sticks around no matter how hard you try to get rid of what created it in the first place? Kind of like what is happening to some Christians around the world today.
While reading the articles and watching the videos of the events unfolding in Afghanistan, I found a handful of people that were not running. Instead they were gathering others and preparing to take a stand against the invading enemy. Still others were hunkered down in undisclosed locations, some not able to leave the safety of their home without the risk of death.
GotQuestions.org posted an article that said, “God then relates how His people will turn back to Him as a result of this tremendous display of His strength—His utter destruction of most of Assyria: “In that day the remnant of Israel, the survivors of the house of Jacob, will no longer rely on him who struck them down but will truly rely on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel. A remnant will return, a remnant of Jacob will return to the Mighty God” (Isaiah 10: 20, 21). He goes on to assure the remaining Israelites that they need not fear the Assyrians, for soon He will destroy them.”
How many have we seen turn to God or strengthen their relationship with Hum through this pandemic? How many do you think will give their life to God as a result of what is happening in Afghanistan right now?
I obviously don’t know what is next, but I DO know, without a doubt, that the mighty hand of God will be shown to the world through this. I also know there’s an urgency for us to dig deeper into the Word, to push into the presence of the Holy Spirit and to encourage our brother’s and sister’s. There is an urgency for us as parents to read the Bible with our kids, pray with them and over them EVERY Day…without stopping.
Are you ready to persevere? Let’s Do This!!
